Beauty for Life MedSpa believes that being informed about the treatments and beauty preserving innovations you choose is of the utmost importance.
Being informed about your skin rejuvenation treatments and procedures will help you to better understand the signs of aging they target, how they work, and what you can expect regarding results. That allows you to make informed decisions to get the most out of your skin rejuvenation treatments!
The use of stem cells and growth factors to target signs of aging is relatively new. While there is an enormous amount of information on the web regarding stem cells and growth factors much of it is difficult to understand. As a consequence of this, I’m often asked by my clients what stem cells and growth factors are, how they work, and what signs of aging they target.
Stem Cells and Growth Factors Introduction
To understand stem cells for use in skin rejuvenation you can think of the stem cells as a medium. Stem cells are specialized cells that respond to growth factors in their immediate environment, subsequently producing new cells.
For skin rejuvenation treatment, stem cells are cultured to create fibroblasts by implanting fibroblast DNA into a ghost cell (see Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell ). These stem cells are nurtured to become growth factor production cells such as fibroblasts or macrophages.
Note that simply using stem cells for skin rejuvenation does not guarantee the production of growth factors, let alone skin-specific growth factors.
To realize true skin rejuvenation, aging skin is in need of these growth factors. Research has demonstrated that growth factors have the ability to induce collagen production, improve the healing of wounds, and more.
